We had a tornado warning today. That's not particularly unusual for this area. However, while the warning was in effect, I stopped by the mall to buy a TV -- and learned that, during a tornado warning, they won't let you shop in the mall! Everyone stands around in doorways, waiting for the warning to expire. I had never heard of such a thing! I didn't feel like standing around doing nothing for 30 minutes, so I went across the street to Arby's and had dinner. While I was eating, I wondered why it was considered safe to eat in a little restaurant, surrounded by windows on all sides, but it's not considered safe to walk around a mall, which I would think would be much more capable of protecting you from a tornado? Weird. Then again I know nothing about (a) construction and (b) tornadoes, so I guess I'm not in a position to judge.
But I ate dinner anyway. Tornado or not, I ain't skipping dinner!
Afterwards I ordered my new TV. If all goes as planned, it will arrive next Wednesday. I haven't been having much luck with consumer electronics recently. Hopefully my TV-related bad luck was all used up by the tornado-inspired delay in ordering it. However, there is the possibility that my bad luck has not run out. (Perhaps the tornado is just lurking out there, waiting for the TV to arrive.) So, unexpectedly struck with a fit of common sense, I called my insurance agent and asked him to send me the papers I need to get renter's insurance.
Considering that I've been renting for 12 years now, perhaps it's time.
On the political front, I suspect the Clinton-defenders have been crowing just a little too jubilantly recently about the dismissal of the Paula Jones lawsuit. In the immortal words of Han Solo, "Don't get cocky!" (Oh, what an obvious joke could be made here!) I suspect there's still plenty of time for things to go wrong.
