Yesterday I completely forgot to make an entry here. Oops. Also yesterday, I forgot to return two tapes to Blockbuster. Oops. Today, I again forgot to return the two tapes to Blockbuster. Oops. Apparently my memory is going.

Yesterday, I tried again to play Ultima Online, this time with more success. All I really wanted to do was gather each of my five characters in the same place so that I could transfer all of my wealth to one character and delete the other four. No big deal. Well, the second character (named "Joshua Duvall") had been left way out in the wilderness the last time I had played him. Completely lost and without my maps, I wandered for an hour before I finally found the town. At that point, the servers crashed. Typical. Today, I logged in as Joshua Duvall again, and learned that the crash had meant that everything was reset to the way it had been an hour earlier. In other words, he was right back where he started, lost in the wilderness. Also typical. After again getting that character back to town, I logged in with the third character (named "Drago Duvall"), at which point the servers crashed once more. Again, typical.
At this rate it will take me a week just to get everyone together in the same town!

Today was the day I was supposed to receive my new TV. The delivery was supposed to take place between 8:00 AM and noon, so I took the morning off from work and waited around. Time passed. By 11:00, I began to wonder if something had gone wrong. I occurred to me that they might have called my work number. I thought about calling work to see whether I had any messages, but figured it was unlikely. When the noon deadline passed, I went in to work – and learned that they had called my work number at 8:30 to get directions to my place. Fine. So I called them back and gave them directions to my place, then rescheduled the delivery. I figured tomorrow would be fine, but was informed that they don't make deliveries on Thursdays. Huh?! Anyway, the delivery is now scheduled for Friday morning.
Man, Murphy's Law is really working overtime these days!
Let's see, here's the current scoreboard:
- Camcorder – had to order; took three trips to the store to pick up.
- VCR – took two weeks to arrive; would not eject the first tape put into it.
- Surround Sound System – would not play out of the rear speakers; replacement took six weeks to arrive; took two trips to the store to pick up.
- DVD player – the model I wanted was sold out, although more arrived a few days later.
- CD player – no problems.
- Television – store was temporarily closed by a tornado warning when I went to order it; took ten days to arrive; first delivery attempt failed.
It's a good thing I have such a pleasant, cheerful outlook on life or I might begin to grow paranoid about consumer electronics.

While playing cards this evening, I casually mentioned that I hadn't filed my taxes yet. That got a satisfactorily amazed reaction from the group. I tele-filed my state return when I got home. Five minutes, nothing special. However, when I entered my social security number, I was told something like "this social security number cannot use the tele-file system." I called back and tried again, at which point it took it. I must have mis-entered it the first time. It wasn't much of anything, but it certainly woke me up for a minute!
