The temperature outside last night dipped into the teens. The temperature inside last night was all of 53 degrees. Brr! After I went to work, Dawn and Lando went to Rosie & GM's house to get warm. Fortunately, the landlord had the furnace working again by noon.
Unfortunately, Marta's latest CBC showed that her red blood cell count had dropped even lower than it had been when they gave her a blood transfusion. The only thing left to try would be to take her to the U of I College of Veterinary Medicine. They would take a bone marrow sample (which would be painful) and would run some tests. However, after talking it over with the vet at UICVM, we decided that it would be too much pain and drawn out stress for Marta for too little hope of recovery. And even in the best case scenario (which is unlikely), that recovery would be very temporary.
So, as much as we would rather not, we've decided to have her put to sleep. We have an appointment for tomorrow morning. (Actually, there's a chance that she won't make it through tonight, due to her extremely low red blood cell count.) We'll leave Lando with Rosie & GM, then take Marta to the local vet. Then we'll try to figure out how to explain it all to a not-quite 3-year-old boy.
