At long last, I finally have all of my LiveJournal posts moved over here! Unfortunately, I didn't find any automated way to export them from LiveJournal and import them to TypePad. LiveJournal can export stuff, and TypePad can import stuff, but the format is different. I just copied/pasted to do the job manually.
Unfortunately, I didn't have a way to copy over the comments. There aren't a huge number of comments over at the old blog, but I'd rather not lose them. :-( Perhaps someday I'll find a way to import them. Sorry!
It was interesting reading some of my earliest posts. Back in 1998, everything was done manually, and the term "blog" was non-existent. It was just an online journal of what I'd done that day. Not even a title for each day's post, much less any of these fancy categories! When I was reposting them, I create descriptive yet unimaginative titles for each entry, to make it easier to find things later. I also added them to the appropriate categories.
So here's how this blog has evolved over the years:
- March 1998: This blog began with manually-created HTML pages on my stand-alone web site, WhatIsYourQuest.com (now deceased).
- July 1998: I created a separate blog at SkepticNews.com (currently dormant, but not entirely dead yet) to discuss skepticism-related stuff.
- June 1999: This blog went dormant, in part because I was spending my blogging time at SkepticNews.com.
- 2000-2005: I got married! We had a child! I got a life! No time for blogging, despite plenty of good material!
- February 2006: I revived this blog and switched to Movable Type software on WhatIsYourQuest.com. Goodbye, manually-created HTML pages!
- October 2007: I moved this blog to LiveJournal. Goodbye, stand-alone web site!
- June 2008: I created yet another blog at SpringfieldLocavore.com (still alive, although desperately in need of an update at the moment) to discuss locavore and food-related stuff.
- April 2009: This blog effectively went dormant, in part because I was spending my blogging time at SpringfieldLocavore.com.
- November 2009: I've revived this blog again and have moved it to TypePad. I'm hoping that will be its very last move!
As you can see, I've been blogging for a very long time! At the same time, I've somehow managed to do very little actual blogging, at least here! I'm hoping to correct that.
The title I've chosen for this incarnation of my blog is "Talking to Myself Again". This refers to the fact that, honestly, I'm really writing this blog for myself. I don't have the writing ability of Amalah and I don't have the insight of Slactivist. All I really know how to do is write about what's happening in my life. And the one who cares most about what's happening in my life is... me!
When I read entries for 10 years ago, I'm amazed at how much my life has changed. That's what this blog is really about -- notes to myself to read 10 years from now. It's me saying, "Hey, remember this stuff? "
If I happen to write something funny or insightful, that's just a bonus!
